[October 6, 2023] Kakao Impact announced its receipt of the prestigious ‘2023 Traditional Market Revitalization Award’ from the President, recognizing its contribution to the revitalization of traditional markets. This award was presented at the National Excellent Market Expo, organized by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Lee Young).

Held annually since 2004, the Expo is the largest traditional market event in South Korea, celebrating its 19th iteration this year. The '2023 National Excellent Market Expo, K-Market Fair,' took place over four days from October 5 to 8 at the Incheon Gyeyang Gymnasium.

The ‘Traditional Market Revitalization Award’ received by Kakao Impact honors organizations that have significantly contributed to the revitalization of traditional markets, fostered cooperation with merchant associations and the government, and boosted morale and pride in traditional markets.

Kakao Impact, in collaboration with Kakao, has been recognized for its digital transformation project 'Our Dangol (Local) Market.' Launched last year, this project supported the digital transition of traditional markets and individual stores, assisting them in establishing KakaoTalk channels and providing digital marketing and online communication training. This initiative has been instrumental in enhancing the digital capabilities of the markets, earning them the Presidential Award.

Since its inception, the Our Dangol Market project has completed digital transition training for 36 markets nationwide as of September this year, starting with the Shinyoung Market in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, last year. With the expansion to support 75 additional markets from October, a total of 111 markets across the country will benefit by the end of this year.

Since the start of the project, a total of 1,506 KakaoTalk channels have been created for 36 markets nationwide, securing approximately 116,227 friends on these channels. A satisfaction survey conducted among participating merchants scored an impressive 4.7 out of 5, indicating high satisfaction levels.

At the expo, Kakao Impact hosted a booth for 'Our Dangol Market,' where they planned to explain the project and showcase digital transformation examples from traditional markets, along with hosting events for expo participants.

Yook Sim-Na, Secretary-General of Kakao Impact, expressed delight at the recognition of the merchants' enthusiasm for the digital transition and Kakao's efforts. "We are thrilled that our efforts in embracing digital change have been acknowledged. We will continue to explore various support measures to further energize traditional markets," she commented.
