[August 21, 2023] Kakao (CEO Hong Eun-Taek) and its subsidiary Daum CIC (CEO Hwang Yu-Ji), which operates the content publishing platform BrunchStory, are set to hold the '11th Brunch Book Publishing Project.'

This project, initiated by BrunchStory in 2015, is a paperback publishing contest that has supported the publication of numerous authors under the slogan "The Birth of New Writers," serving as a launchpad for emerging and established writers.

Over its ten iterations, Kakao and BrunchStory have supported the creation of 339 award-winning titles with an investment of over 500 million won. Notable bestsellers from the project include 'The 1990s Are Coming (the 5th project),' 'The Sadness of Young ADHD (the 8th project),' 'Small and Precious Misfortune (the 9th project),' and the Brunch Book e-publishing project 'Welcome to Hyunam-dong Bookstore.' The 10th project saw a record number of submissions, resulting in 10 grand prize winners and a total of 50 new authors.

The submission window for the '11th Brunch Book Publishing Project' is open until October 22, welcoming entries from all Brunch authors, with the theme being open. Eligible participants are required to compile a Brunch book comprising a minimum of ten episodes on the BrunchStory PC platform. After publishing, they can select one of their completed Brunch Books on the 'Submit Your Work to Brunch Book Publishing Project' page for consideration.

The project will award ten grand prizes, each receiving 5 million won, with the total award amounting to 50 million won. The winners, set to be announced in December, will have their works published in paperback by June of the following year, with BrunchStory providing full marketing support.

The judging panel for this edition includes ten prominent publishing houses: Kimyoungsa, Media Changbi, Bookhouse, Suo Seojai, Sigongsa, Anon Books, RH Korea, Storyteller, Hanbit Media, and Heureum Publishing. Each publisher will select a winning entry and collaborate with the author through the writing and editing process, ultimately turning the winning entries into published books.

Brunch Book, a feature of Kakao's BrunchStory platform, allows authors to plan and complete original editions independently. The platform provides a packaging tool that converts a collection of articles into a single Brunch Book on the BrunchStory PC web.

This tool includes features for ▲creating covers, ▲registering work introductions, and ▲organizing chapters, enabling authors to create the original edition for oneself. Authors can also access an insight report showing completion rates and a feature predicting the time readers will need to finish the entire book.

Manager Hwang Su-Young of the Story Business Division said, "The Brunch Book Publishing Project will provide Brunch authors with publishing opportunities, contributing to the vitality of the creator ecosystem. We hope this event becomes a festival for writers and wholeheartedly support those aspiring to be published authors to embrace this challenge." (End)
